Welcome to the City of London Corporation’s website for the construction of City of London Primary Academy Islington (CoLPAI).
The City of London Corporation is redeveloping the former Richard Cloudesley School site and the associated City of London land, on Golden Lane. The COLPAI project will deliver a new school, City of London Primary Academy Islington (CoLPAI) with space for 420 pupils and 38 nursery spaces to meet the increasing demand for primary school places. The scheme will also provide 66 much-needed social rent homes.
The project includes a new school and homes for residents of the City of London and London Borough of Islington.
Planning approval to redevelop the site was granted in July 2018.

Its experience in the education sector includes The American School in London, an international private school in St John’s Wood and Julian’s School, a primary school in Streatham. It has also worked on a variety of residential schemes including the Marylebone Village estate, a 139 unit residential project.
ISG is part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which ensures the impact of building works on local communities is minimised in terms of noise, traffic, access and hours of operation. The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a national initiative set-up by the construction industry to improve its image. Construction sites and companies registered with the Scheme are monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice.

You will have begun to see a presence on the site in August, this was us conducting surveys and preparing the site for redevelopment. Please find below some key dates for works taking place in the coming months.

Q. When will construction start?
Site presence will begin from August 2018, with demolition due to start in Quarter 4 of 2018.
Q. How long will construction take?
We expect construction of phase one to be completed by Quarter 2 2020, with phase two being completed in Quarter 2 2021.
Q. Will the school be completed before construction on the residential building is complete?
The school building will be completed in Quarter 2 2020 while the residential building is nearing completion.
Q. What times will you be working on the site?
Working hours will be restricted to 08:00 and 18:00 Monday – Friday, 08:00 and 13:00 on Saturdays.
Q. What do we do if we have a complaint about construction activities?

Q. Where will construction vehicles access the site from?
Access and egress of construction vehicles to the site will be from Golden Lane.
Q. Will you be monitoring the site for noise and dust etc.?
Air quality will be controlled via dust suppression and mitigation. Dust monitoring will take place throughout both the demolition and construction phases. Vehicles leaving the site will be cleaned to ensure dirt is not brought out to the road and dust suppression will ensure dust is reduced. If there are issues of dust from the site on neighbouring properties, ISG will organise the cleaning of the affected areas.
Q. What will happen to the trees neighbouring the site?
All trees are to be retained unless otherwise agreed by the Local Planning Authority. Where trees have died, become seriously damaged or defective, they will be replaced with mature specimens.
Q. Will there be street closures?
No, there will be intermittent disturbances to the flow of traffic on Golden Lane for the moving of vehicles and delivery of materials to the site.
